postcard from Spiral Jetty

A few weekends ago Cameron and I took a little field trip to one of my favorite spots: Robert Simthson's piece of earth art on the Great Salt Lake, the Spiral Jetty. It was Cameron's first time visiting and my second. We decided to go on a whim when the weather was perfectly warm and sunny - I even got so bold to bust out my shorts for the first and only time this year.

This was one of those rare perfect days that rejuvenate me and change my whole perspective. The Great Salt Lake is always a sort of magical place for me, and even more so the Spiral Jetty (a different piece of art at every viewing because of the ebb and flow of water levels). Driving hours to get to it on a warm spring day, wandering on the salt-encrusted sand, enjoying the solitude, and sharing a picnic blanket with my sweetheart while the sun set tipped it all over the edge into dream territory.

(p.s. Photo updates are being posted in reverse chronological order. Maybe every other day is a more realistic goal.)
